The "Ballykissangel" pub, Avoca

Over the past couple of years, I've done a WEA course in Irish Literature (Swift to Joyce), one on Irish History 1800 - 1921, another on the period from 1921 onwards, and an online Trinity College course entitled "Irish Lives in War and Revolution: Exploring Ireland's History 1912-1923". I've even got myself an Irish passport. Clearly there's been some nostalgic yearning going on, to learn more about the land of my birth, about the Southern part of which (the "real" Ireland) I know so little.

So one day recently Anne and I agreed that it was high time I got it out of my system, and that it was her turn to stay at home to look after dear old Daisy. So I leave on Wed 25 March at 9.45 pm on QF 8413 to Dubai, connecting with QF 8161 direct to Dublin (both Emirates flights, of course!), where I'm due to arrive at 11.20 am local time on Thurs 26 March. I'm due back in Australia at sparrow-fart on 17 April.

I'm booked to stay 5 nights at the Davenport Hotel in Dublin, and then embark on a grand tour clockwise via Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Cork, Tralee, Limerick, Galway, Castlebar, and then back across to Drogheda, thence to Dublin Airport. This map will give you a general overview of the route.
